Styles of Herding Ò“Tight eyed” dogs use intimidation to get the stock to do its bidding. ÉExamples: Border Collies, Kelpies, Aussies ÉThey use their body posture and eye to imply: I am the wolf and I will chew you to pieces if you don’t do what I want……. ÉUsually do best in pasture situations – more comfortable in a bigger space. ÒUpright/Loose Eyed Dog – present more of a guardian/enforcer presence ÉExamples: GSD, Collies, Rottis, Bouviers ÉThese dogs are comfortable in arena or field, but think Border Collies that run 400 yard outruns are nuts. They want the keys to the 4-wheeler. ÉThey use their body posture to impose the “OK boys we are going for a walk to the field, and if you stick with me – I will take care of you. If you get out of line, I am going to be unhappy and put you back in place”
